Marc Henri Piault est anthropologue et cinéaste, directeur de recherche honoraire au CNRS et président du Comité du film ethnographique (Paris). Il a mené des recherches en Afrique occidentale, sur les migrations, les formations politiques précoloniales et les cultes de possession, en France sur l’identité régionale et la représentation culturelle, au Brésil sur la formation de la croyance, les appartenances et identités, les violences, religions et appartenances sociales. Il a enseigné en France, à Paris X, EHESS, Aix, Paris I Sorbonne, et au Brésil à l’Université d'état de Rio de Janeiro (anthropologie politique et anthropologie Visuelle), Université fédérale du Rio Grande do Sul, Fondation Getulio Vargas. Il a réalisé des films au Niger, Nigéria, France, Brésil. Il est l’auteur de nombreuses publications en français, anglais, portugais, espagnol, grec, italien. Ses développements théoriques concernent l'audiovisuel (cf. notamment : Anthropologie et Cinéma, Paris, Nathan, 2000, Téraèdre, 2008), l'hyper-relativisme et le paradigme construction-déconstruction de l'objet en anthropologie.

Marc Henri Piault is an anthropologist and a filmmaker, Director of research at CNRS and President of the Comité du film ethnographique (Paris). He has conducted research in West Africa, on migration, precolonial political formations and possession cults, in France focused on regional identity and cultural representation, in Brazil on belief formation processes, belonging and identity, violence, religion and social belonging. He has taught in France, at Paris X, EHESS, Aix, Paris I Sorbonne, and in Brazil at the State University of Rio de Janeiro, (Political Anthropology and Visual Anthropology), Federal University of Grande do Sul, Getulio Vargas Foundation. He has directed films in Niger, Nigeria, France and Brazil. He is the author of numerous publications in French, English, Portuguese, Spanish, Greek, Italian. His theoretical developments concerns audiovisual (among others: Anthropologie et Cinéma, Paris, Nathan, 2000, Téraèdre, 2008), hyperrelativism and the construction-deconstruction of the subject paradigm in anthropology.
