Cognition in social interaction • a multi-layered approach - Ludvigsen

In this talk learning is viewed as multi-layered phenomena. A socio-genetic approach is used in order to understand human activity, and to show how categories are a fundamental part of learning in a specific type of institutional practice. Empirically I explore how students talk and reason when they are exposed to a set of categories taken from scientific discourse. The findings imply that the categories in the progressive inquiry model could guide the students towards a more systematic orientation when prompted by the teacher.

The role of knowledge in the construction of education policy across EuropeIn Europe, information and expertise are now both more widely distributed and more readily accessible than ever before. At the same time, expectations of transparency and public accountability have increased.
