As these impairments affect specific syntactic structures (Grodzinsky, 2000) and occur across various syndrome classifications (Dronkers et al., 2004), standardized aphasia batteries often fail to detect them. This is a preferred technique for operations to remove lesions close to, or involving, eloquent language cortex.
