Descriptif

The first part of the tutorial will present and contrast currentexperimental methodologies, giving attendees in-depthunderstanding of the scientific and technological issues at hand.

The second part of the tutorial will focus on simulation, givinga state of the art of current simulation technology anddiscussing challenges for the development of sound simulationmodels. The tutorial will use the SimGrid simulation framework asan exemplar since it implements sophisticated and validatedsimulation models.

The last part of the tutorial will be a hands-on and focus on anin-depth presentation how SMPI can be used to predict theperformance of MPI codes.

By the end of this tutorial attendees should have a clearunderstanding of current technology and best practice forexperimental parallel large-scale distributed computing research, and in particular on the use of simulation.
