Descriptif

Ti Kian Seow (Nutrition and Food Systems Officer, FAO) and Clement Lorvao (Senior Monitoring & Evaluation Expert, FAO) present how to use theories of change and impact pathways to mainstream nutrition within a food systems framework.

The presentation is divided into four sections : 1) the logic of change and why the theory of change is used ;  2) how to use a theory of change in the context of nutrition; 3) how to include food systems paramaters within a theory of change, in order to promote and achieve healthy diets ; 4) recap and case study from Kenya.

They emphasize the fact that taking a food systems approach for making sustainable healthy diets available, affordable and appealing for all will require a careful consideration of potential trade-offs. This means ensuring the effective cooperation of the different components of the food systems, to enable healthy diets whilst considering the effect of different drivers.

The case study explains how to implement the stepwise approach from theory to practice and is based on an experience on small-scale fisheries from Kenya. It is based on the food systems framework and should involve a multistakeholder platform with participants from a variety of backgrounds.
