The challenge of the integrating the adaptive and technological value of wood in a changing climate

Guillermina Dalla-Salda (INTA Bariloche (IFAB INTA CONICET)

July 30 at 15h (CET/Paris time)

The International Associated Laboratory FORESTIA starts in 2021 a new round of short seminars aimed at stimulating the scientific comunication among its members, as well as between them and other international laboratories. These seminars are a new opportunity for the FORESTIA scientists to present and discuss their objectives, research work and results on adaptation of forest ecosystems to global changes.

Seminar #3 by Guillermina Dalla-Salda (INTA Bariloche (IFAB INTA CONICET)

 Abstract

Wood fulfills multiple functions required for the survival of trees and is involved in multiple functional processes Genetic determinism of functional traits offers the possibility of using wood to understand the adaptation processes of forests, to environmental stress events, which take an increasing role in the context of global climate change At the same time, wood is the mechanical support of trees and is a raw material for industry Therefore, the study of technology based properties becomes relevant for the processes of production, creation, design and implementation of wood products for value added in origin Our objective is to generate basic and applied research within the framework of the multiple processes in which wood is involved.
