Descriptif

MONOCLE (Multiscale Observation Networks for Optical monitoring of Coastal waters, Lakes and Estuaries) is an EU-funded research project developing water quality observation solutions using satellites, buoys, ships, and hand-held devices. These range from highly accurate automated systems to low-cost sensor solutions that can be built and operated by citizens.

The MONOCLE sensor system will establish firm links between operational Earth Observation (EO) and essential environmental monitoring in inland and transitional water bodies. In addition it is exploring the role local communities and volunteers can play in collecting data to complement existing monitoring networks, evaluate the performance of in-situ sensors, and in the maintenance and deployment of sensors.
