La conférence futorganisée à l'occasion du 25ème anniversaire de la parution dePossession, A Romance et les questions posées par ArmelleParey (Université de Caen) portent donc essentiellement sur ce romanqui reçut les prestigieux Irish Times/Aer Lingus InternationalFiction Prize et Booker Prize en 1990. Au cours de la conversation,qui inclut la lecture du post-script de Possession, laromancière revient sur la réception initiale du roman, évoque sapassion pour les mots, sa curiosité narrative et sa vie de lectrice.

This conversation with A.S. Byatt was recorded at the onset of a conference organized by theresearch team ERIBIA and devoted to the novelist at the Universitéde Caen on March 26th and 27th, 2015. Theevent was dedicated to the memory of Jean-Louis Chevalier, A. S.Byatt's first French translator and Professor in English Literatureat the University of Caen.

Because theconference was organized on the occasion of the 25thanniversary of the publication of Possession,A Romance, the questions devised byArmelle Parey (Université de Caen) all focus on this novel forwhich Byatt received the Irish Times/Aer Lingus InternationalFiction Prize and the Booker Prize in 1990. Thenovelist thus returns to the initial reception of Possession,particularly in the USA. She notably evokes her love for words, hernarrative curiosity and her reading life. Following her reading ofthe last section of Possession,she answers questions on thepostscript.
