Descriptif

In this seminar, Tobias Krueger will delve into practices of hydrological modelling to show what worlds they create (Krueger & Alba, 2022). He will then discuss how a practice they have calle ‘situated modelling’ not only prompts us to reflect on the contingencies and politics of modelling but also suggests ways of modelling differently (Klein et al., 2024). His proposal benefits from modellers collaborating with people who are not modellers but eschews the integration imperative of conventional inter-and transdisciplinary endeavours (Krueger et al., 2016).

Speaker
TOBIAS KRUEGER, is Professor of Hydrology & Society at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin where he currently leads the Integrative Research Institute on Transformations of Human-Environment Systems (IRI THESys). Trained as a hydrological modeller with a focus on uncertainty analysis, he likes to work with ethnographers and others to understand modelling as a knowledge and world-making practice.

Moderation
JEAN-PHILIPPE VENOT, IRD (UMR G-EAU). is directeur de recherche at IRD. He has an interdisciplinary background and conducts research on the politics and practices of irrigation and water development in the global South, paying specific attention to the role of knowledge making. He co-coordinates the GT Eau Bien commun of IRD together with Patrick Lachassagne.
