Descriptif

Balveer Arora est diplômé de Sciences-Po et titulaire d'une thèse de sciences politiques de l'université Paris I.
Il est professeur au Centre d'Etudes Politiques de l'Ecole de Sciences Sociales de l'Université Jawaharlal Nehru de New Delhi, dont il a été recteur et pro vice-chancelier.
Ses travaux portent principalement sur le système fédéral indien et sur la place des partis dans le fonctionnement de la démocratie indienne. Il est membre, entre autres, du Forum d'Initiative franco-indien, et du comité international d'évaluation de la Fondation Maison des Sciences de l'Homme.


Lors de cet entretien, Balveer Arora développe la question du fédéralisme indien évoquant la construction délicate de l'idée de nation indienne après la partition indo-pakistanaise de 1947, les relations complexes entre le pouvoir central et les 28 états de l'Union indienne, le jeu des partis politiques, la décentralisation et l'apparition des panchayats (Conseillers communaux), ainsi que le poids croissant de la Cour Suprême dans la gestion des conflits entre les différents états indiens.
Enfin, en tant qu'administrateur de la recherche, il revient sur la question de l'enseignement supérieur indien et des défis majeurs auxquels il est confronté.
