Descriptif
Once a diagnostic test has been completed and characterized by its intrinsic validity parameters, the question arises about the predictive capacity of its result. In other words, what is the likelihood of the test result predicting the presence or absence of the desired phenomenon? An example of a cross-sectional population study describes how to build and interpret such a table based on three pieces of information: Sensitivity, specificity and the prevalence rate of the phenomenon in the population to which the tested individual belongs. The Bayes theorem demonstrates that the calculation of positive and negative predictive values is also determined by this prevalence rate.
