Septième rencontre du cycle de débats sur l'immigration avec Françoise Vergès, Philippe Peycam, la réalisatrice Safoi Babana- Hampton et Benjamin Stora, président du Conseil d’orientation du Palais de la Porte Dorée.

 

Débat Mémoires et histoire, entre la grande politique et l’intime: "Les effacés des mémoires post-coloniales: L'exemple des hmongs" autour du documentaire "Mémoire hmong à la croisée des chemins" [Hmong Memory at the Crossroads].

Ce film retrace les histoires de trois générations de réfugiés Hmong dans le Midwest américain et en France. Habitant de Rochester Hills dans l’État du Michigan, Liachoua Lee évoque son passé d’ancien réfugié et de fils d’anciens combattants de la Guerre d’Indochine (1946-1954) et de la Guerre secrète au Laos (1961-1975), en revenant sur les lieux qui portent les traces de son histoire personnelle et les blessures intérieures infligées par la guerre. Sorti en 2015, ce documentaire revient sur la mémoire coloniale française en intégrant la perspective des supplétifs hmongs de l’armée coloniale française pendant la Guerre d’Indochine, leur exil et leur expérience de réfugiés en France et aux États-Unis.

Débat animé par Alexis Lacroix, directeur adjoint de l’hebdomadaire Marianne.

Les intervenants:

Françoise Vergès est politologue, auteure de nombreux ouvrages et articles en français et en anglais sur les mémoires de l’esclavage colonial. Elle est titulaire dela Chaire Global South(s) au Collège d’études mondiales à la Fondation Maison des sciences de l’homme.

Safoi Babana-Hampton est enseignante-chercheuse d’études françaises, francophones, culturelles et postcoloniales à la Michigan State University. Elle est l’auteure, productrice et co-réalisatrice du documentaire Mémoire Hmong à la croisée des chemins.

Philippe Peycam est directeur de l’Institut International des Études Asiatiques (IIAS) à l’Université de Leyde, Pays-Bas.

Benjamin Stora est universitaire et historien, auteur de nombreux ouvrages sur le Maghreb contemporain et l’immigration. Il est Président du Conseil d’Orientation du Musée national de l’histoire de l’immigration.

Seventh meeting of the debate series on immigration with Françoise Vergès, Philippe Peycam, director Safoi Babana- Hampton and Benjamin Stora, President of the Musée National de l'Histoire de l'Immigration (The National Museum of the History of Immigration), at the Palais de la Porte Dorée (Paris, France).

Debate theme: "Memory and History, Between High politics and the Intimate: The Forgotten of Post-colonial Memories: The example of the Hmong" around the documentary "Memory Hmong at the Crossroads".

This film tells the stories of three generations of Hmong refugees in the US Midwest and France. Rochester Hills Resident in the State of Michigan, Liachoua Lee recalls his past as a former refugee and son of veterans of the Indochina War (1946-1954) and the Secret War in Laos (1961-1975) , returning to the places that bear the traces of his personal history and internal wounds inflicted by the war. Released in 2015, this documentary looks back at the French colonial memory by bringing the perspective of Hmong auxiliaries of the French colonial army during the Indochina War, their exile and experience of refugees in France and the United States.

The debate is moderated by Alexis Lacroix, Assistant Director of the weekly Marianne.

Participants:

Françoise Vergès is a political scientist, author of numerous books and articles in English and French on the memories of colonial slavery. She holds the Chair "Global South (s)" at the College d'Etudes Mondiales (Institute for Global Studies) at the Fondation Maison des Sciences de l'Homme (the Foundation of the Sciences of Man).

Safoi Babana-Hampton is a university professor and researcher of French, Francophone, postcolonial, and cultural Studies, at Michigan State University. She is the author, producer and co-director of the documentary "Hmong Memory at the Crossroads".

Philippe Peycam is director of the International Institute for Asian Studies (IIAS) at the University of Leiden, Netherlands.

Benjamin Stora is a university professor and historian, author of numerous books on the contemporary Maghreb and immigration. He is President of the Musée National de l'Histoire de l'Immigration (The National Museum of the History of Immigration), at the Palais de la Porte Dorée (Paris, France).
