Social distinction in the 21st recording studio

Description

This symposium took place on February 14, 2020 at the University of Lethbridge. It examined anthropological, psychological, musicological, and social aspects of the recording
studio. The presentations contrasted the current challenges and opportunities that this
workplace symbolizes. The emphasis was on the upcoming generations of arrangers,
beatmakers, audio engineers, music producers and artists-producers, and on the ways in which
past recording and broadcasting practices inform present recording studios.

Dr. Amandine Pras and Dr. Athena Elafros would like to thank the Office of Research and
Innovation Services at the University of Lethbridge - and the Exchange Program of the
Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) for the funding
needed to make this symposium possible.
