Descriptif

After a presentationof the operation of an Orbitrap mass analyzer, the film shows the coupling of ahigh-performance liquid chromatography system and a high-resolution massspectrometer of the Exactive type. Then, the principle of the interpretation ofa mass spectrum is presented by emphasizing the interest of high resolution. The determination of the gross formula of an unknown compound is detailed. Thefilm also presents the usefulness of high resolution mass detection in theidentification of isomers, adducts and conjugated compounds. The tool can alsobe used for screening complex matrices and absolute quantification of analytes.High-resolution mass spectrometry appears to be very suitable for the analysisof natural substances and in particular of wine.

The film was shot at the Institute of Vine andWine Sciences in the Oenology Unit. The laboratory is a mixed research unit ofthe University of Bordeaux / INRA.
