Food system interventions for nutrition: examples from GRET

Interview with Adama Bayili, Coordinator, GRET and Claire Costis, Nutrition Programme Officer, GRET.

The 2 speakers describe how, in GRET, they link the interventions with the different sectors, and with the functions of the food system : crops production aiming at food diversification, taking into account environment issues with agro ecologic systems; food processing is addressed as well, with food fortifications interventions for infants complementary feeding, linking with health services, with producers, and taking into account quality issues, but also economic or food rules environment. Advocacy sometimes strengthen the actions too.

Their programmes also include capacity building actions at different levels: for example, some farmers’ organisations are included into nutrition training actions. This helps linking agriculture, health, and nutrition, without forgetting gender dimensions. Finally, the GRET is concerned with the sustainability of all these types of interventions.
